Photographs as curriculum acts against religious racism: an experience at the school of education of UERJ
Abstract
This article discusses the use of photographs as curriculum actsand aims to share the importance of the aesthetic reference as a competence that creates emancipationist autonomies. It also seeks to address the importance of photography in the production of destabilizing images. Can photography, discussed in the classroom, provoke discussions on racism, religious racism and religious intolerance? Can photography contribute to an anti-racist and less intolerant education? Such questions motivated the researcher to use photographs, in one of the semesters of 2017, with a class from the Faculty of Education of the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). For methodology, this text offers the experience of this semester, recorded in class diaries and mediated with a theoretical framework on curriculum and racism and on photography. After the intended reflection, it is made clear that yes, photographs help to destabilize universalisms, prejudices, intolerances and racism and are curriculum acts that contribute to an anti-racist and plural education.
